Quote of the day:
“Do something nice for yourself today. Find some quiet, sit in stillness, breathe. Put your problems on pause. You deserve a break.” -Akiroq Brost
You do deserve a break. Please be kind to yourself (and your family) during our social distancing quarantine. The saying you can’t pour from an empty cup has never applied more to me then it does right now. I’m in the midst of trying to homeschool a 3rd grader and a special needs kindergartener. This week has been interesting to say the least and most people would agree it’s been an adjustment of huge proportions.
“Self care” is the buzz word as of recently and you need to take it seriously. Treat yourself. Take an extra long shower and shave your legs. Take a bubble bath. Have a glass or 3 of wine. Read a book. Do some yoga. Meditate. Hide away from the rest of your family and binge watch your favorite show by yourself. Listen to your favorite music. Listen to a motivational podcast. Facetime a friend. Take a nap. Paint your nails. Do a face mask. Bake some cookies (and eat some cookies). Plan a “dream vacation” for when this is all over with. Make yourself some coffee and sit while drinking it.
Whatever makes you happy and fuels your soul. Find a way to fill your cup and get your self care in regularly during all this. This whole ordeal is marathon, not a sprint. You need to keep your own head clear and in the game if your family stands a chance at getting through this quarantine.
We ordered a coffee moka pot that goes on the stove and a milk frother/ foamer wand thing. They should both be here Sunday, we already got the ground espresso. It’s going to be a self care item for both my husband and I. We are hoping to be able to make some coffee shop quality coffee at home. Fingers crossed we can figure it out.
I’m looking forward to recreating an honey oatmilk latte I had a few weeks ago while at a cute little coffee shop with a friend. It was slightly sweet, creamy, and oh so a-maz-ing! I hadn’t realized until these last few years that my stomach isn’t overly fond of rich milk products… lattes, ice cream, yogurt… I had chalked up my uneasy stomach after drinking a latte to the espresso. Nope. That oatmilk latte didn’t bother my tummy at all and it was soooo sooo delicious! (Now, I have yet to get the oatmilk for this adventure, but we live .2 miles away from a Trader Joe’s and can walk over there sometime this next week and hopefully grab some and a few groceries).
What are your favorite ways to relax? I also love the classic bubble bath with a glass of wine route. It’s popular for a reason. Easy and amazing. Get your self care in! It’s super important!
