Quote of the day:
“The critical ingredient is getting off your butt and doing something. It’s as simple as that. A lot of people have ideas, but there are few who decide to do something about them now. Not tomorrow. Not next week. But today.” – Nolan Bushnell
Alright, let’s get serious for a minute. We are all stuck at home and have nowhere to go. Social distancing is happening and we all, practically overnight, have become homebodies, whether we like it or not.
Now, we could just sit around in our PJs all day eating ice cream, drinking wine, and getting fat while binge watching old episodes of something on Netflix. Or, we can choose to see this social distancing/ sheltering at home time period as an excellent opportunity to get things done. I for one, am clearly working on this blog. I originally started it back in 2017 and it was titled “Eat, Drink & DIY.” I really enjoyed it, but as my daughter is medically fragile and special needs, it was hard to keep up with the need to photo everything while being her caretaker. If you need to pivot on a project or idea to make it work better for you, now is the time!
What could you do, from home, as a side hustle? What that looks like it totally up to you. Maybe you love to paint, so during our isolation time period, you get your brushes out and get to work. You spend time online looking for where best to sell them (after) like Etsy, stores, etc… Get painting and make a plan.
Or maybe you want to start a podcast… you’ve got the time now, get started! Maybe you’ve had an idea about a book that you’d like to write. Get started! That book isn’t going to write itself. What else are you going to do? There are lots of potentially money-making options out there for you to pursue if you put some time and effort in and get off the couch.
Another idea of how to spend your quarantine; clean out your closets! Start with one at a time. Then move onto the next one. Make piles to donate to your local thrift store. Do a spring decluttering of your house and you’ll feel refreshed and productive.
Deep clean. I know this isn’t fun, but when else do you have this much time on your hands? Wipe down the baseboards, wash the outer shower curtain, dust the ceiling fan, wash your windows. Get your home refreshed for spring. You’ll love the feeling once it’s done.
Exercise. There are endless options of how to do this at home. Check YouTube for videos from yoga to HIIT workouts at home to belly dancing. The options for how to work up a sweat are endless. Getting up off the couch to move everyday should be an essential part of your day. As we are stuck in our homes, our movement is limited. We are not walking from the parking lot to our offices. Honestly, we are not getting much movement in at all. So, please do your body a favor and get sweating. You might be able to say you came out of this quarantine 5 lbs. lighter instead of 10 lbs. heavier.
Alright, so what are you going to do during this time of social distancing to be productive? The original Greatest Generation rose to their challenges. This is ours. Let’s stop making excuses and figure out some ways to be productive everyday.
